FELLOWSHIP COURSE

Intellectual Property Fellowship Course February 6 - June 11, 2012.

Instructed by Catherine Douglas, who has practiced as a registered Trade-Mark Agent in Canada since 1998, both in-house and in private practice, with clients across North America. Ms. Douglas has worked with ILCO for a number of years and is currently a Fellow Member of ILCO. The course will cover the concepts of copyright, trade-marks, patents, other forms of intellectual property, plus enforcement, remedies and commercialization. Students will receive 1 Fellowship credit upon successful completion of the course.

FELLOWSHIP COURSE

eDiscovery - Legal and Practical Principles - January 25 - April 4, 2012

This course will be instructed by Crystal O'Donnell and Susan Nickle. Crystal O'Donnell, a sole practitioner, has experience as a document review counsel and an electronic discovery consultant with LexisNexis Applied Discovery, and is a member of the Sedona Canada Working Group 7. Susan Nickle practices law with Wortzman Nickle Professional Corporation based in Toronto, Ontario. The firm focuses on providing legal advice regarding e-discovery, litigation readiness, records management policies, and litigation management to law firms and corporations. Ms. Nickle is one of the original members of the Sedona Canada Working Group that developed the Canadian national guidelines for e-discovery.

FELLOWSHIP COURSE

Family Law Fellowship Course January 24, - May 1, 2012.

Instructed by Llana Nakonechny, a partner of the all woman firm Dickson MacGregor Appell LLP, has been an instructor in Family Law at ILCO, the Bar Admission Course at Ryerson Polytechnic University and currently is a part time professor at the University of Ottawa, Faculty of Common Law, teaching family law and civil procedure. The course will cover all of the major areas of Family Law. A background in Family Law is highly recommended for this course. Students will receive 1 Fellowship credit upon successful completion of course

FELLOWSHIP COURSE

SECURITIES - January 12 - April 19, 2012

Course instructor is Michelle Vaillancourt, who has practiced as senior litigation counsel with the Ontario Securities Commission since November 2007.    Ms. Vaillancourt was called to the bar of Ontario in 1995 and the bar of Alberta in 2007.  Prior to joining the Commission, Ms. Vaillancourt was a partner at Heenan Blaikie LLP in the litigation department.  She has appeared before all levels of court in Ontario, the Supreme Court of Canada and before the Alberta Court of Queen’s Bench.

During her time at the Commission, Ms. Vaillancourt has been involved in a wide variety of enforcement files involving Ontario securities lawMs. Vaillancourt recently completed the Canadian Securities Course and has attended a number of securities law conferences in Ontario and in the U.S. 

A corporate law background is highly recommended for this course.

ESTATE LAW FELLOWSHIP COURSE November 7, 2011 - January 30, 2012

ILCO is excited to be offering a Fellowship Course in Estate Law, starting in November, and instructed by Jim and Alyson Sweetlove.

A background in Estate Law is highly recommended in order to successfully complete this course. Mr. Sweetlove has worked with ILCO for many years, is a practicing estates lawyer for 39 years, is Certified by the Law Society of Upper Canada as a Specialist in Estates and Trust Law and a Partner at the firm Ross & McBride LLP.

Successful completion of this course will provide you with 1 Fellowship credit. (Currently, 2 Fellowship credits are required for Fellowship Membership).

Back by popular demand, the Securities Law fellowship course is open to all ILCO members and non-members.
 
This course will instruct students on Ontario securities law concepts and help them apply those concepts to the various forms and documents involved in securities transactions.
 
Classes will be held on Monday evenings from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. beginning on January 17, 2011.  The registration deadline is Wednesday, January 12, 2011.  Payment must be received to be registered.

By the end of the course a student should be familiar with the structure of standard securities law transactions and be able to identify and complete a number of documents and forms.

FAMILY LAW FELLOWSHIP COURSE

The Institute of Law Clerks of Ontario “ILCO” is pleased to offer the Family Law fellowship course to its members and to the legal community.

The course will cover all of the major areas of Family Law including: who is a family and why the government regulates families; the constitutional and institutional contexts of family law and the Family Law Rules; common law relationships, marriage and divorce; equalization of matrimonial property, financial statements and financial disclosure; support under the Child Support Guidelines including special and extraordinary expenses and under the Spousal Support Advisory Guidelines, and the formation, variation and setting aside of Domestic Contracts.
