Everyday Ethics for Law Clerks - Morning Program

This three hour workshop focuses on applying ethics in one’s daily activities. Through interaction, participants will be guided through an ethical decision-making framework and review of professional conduct consistent with the Law Society of Ontario - Rules of Professional Conduct and ILCO Code of Ethics, related to the work of a law clerk. The presentation is available for in-house and webcast attendance.

Learning Outcomes:

1.  Review ethical perspectives used in everyday activities;

2.  Examine an ethical decision-making framework for everyday application;

3.  Explore relevant ethical rules and codes significant to the role of a law clerk.

This program will be led by Virginia Harwood, a Durham College professor and 3M National Teaching Fellow with the Society of Teaching and Learning in Higher Education in Canada. Virginia Harwood teaches across various legal studies programs in the School of Justice & Emergency Services and is the founder of the Mediation-Alternative Dispute Resolution Graduate Certificate program and the college’s on campus mediation clinic, Campus Conflict Resolution Services.

 

***Reminder to ILCO Certified Experts***

In order to maintain your Certified Expert designation, completion of a mandatory ethics course approved by ILCO every five-membership years is required, as defined in Appendix "A" of the ILCO Certification Application Form. Only the member who has registered will be able to claim the course towards their Certified Expert designation. Taking the above course will satisfy the requirement to complete a mandatory ethics course every five years.
