ILCO Fellowship Courses

Fellowship courses are in-depth, advanced level and are recommended for those persons with five years clerking experience. They examine a specific substantive area of law. Students write an exam at the conclusion of each course and must receive 60% or higher for successful completion. The exam cost is included in the course fee. A certificate of recognition of this academic achievement is provided.   

Pre-Covid19, the Fellowship courses were offered at ILCO’s Education Centre, located at 20 Adelaide Street East, Suite 503, Toronto. Live webcast for each course was offered at the discretion of the instructor.

As of March 2020, the Fellowship courses will be held ONLINE via ZOOM platform and Exams must be written online with ILCO's proctor. ILCO issues a grade report within 90 days of the exam date. 

POLICIES: 

ATTENDANCE:  Attendance is mandatory. Classes will not be recorded. Students are expected to attend class on a regular basis.

REFUND: The course fee is non-refundable.

APPEAL: There is no appeal process for Fellowship grades.

RESCHEDULING:  There is no option to reschedule the exam.

 Fellowship courses are recommended for those persons with five years clerking experience as they are advanced level programs.

2025 FELLOWSHIP ESTATE ACCOUNTING COURSE

The Course will address the various aspects of estate accounting from consideration of the relevant legislation and common law principles, through the preparation of estate accounts to a passing of accounts. It will include such topics as distinguishing between capital and income, unusual entries, problem areas, estate trustee compensation and accounting for a power of attorney for property. Informal accounting where a passing of accounts will also be dealt with, as well as requirements under the Estate Administration Tax regulations.

2025 FELLOWSHIP SECURITIES LAW COURSE

The course will provide an overview of Securities law and focus on practical considerations and practice points. While the course will emphasize corporate finance transactions, topics covered will also include continuous disclosure documents, M&A transactions, corporate governance, and insider reporting obligations.
